![]() Jim Mapstead has called District 3 his home for the past 16 years. As a husband, father, business owner, and community leader in District 3, Jim understands the needs of his community. All of Phoenix will continue to experience unprecedented growth within the next several years. Jim is running for Phoenix City Council to ensure that city leaders beginhaving the right conversations now in order to be proactive about this future growth. Jim has been a resident of Phoenix on and off since 1963. He was born on June 17, 1950 in Riverside, California and moved to Phoenix with his family in 1963. Shortly after graduating from Maryvale High School, Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Once his military service was over, Jim attended the University of Arizona and then in 1976 moved to the Washington D.C. area. In 1991, Jim and his wife moved back home to Phoenix. Since returning, Jim purchased and continues to runs his own business, Accurate Signs & Engraving. He has also been an active member of his community. Jim is a graduate of Valley Leadership Class XXVI, and was awarded the Big Brother of the Year award in 2005. Jim is a past Board Member and currently sits on several committees for the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce. In 2004, Accurate Signs & Engraving was a Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce Small Business Awards finalist. He also sits on the Board of Directors for the Sunnyslope Village Alliance. Additionally, Jim is the Chair of the Paradise Valley Village Planning Committee, which has allowed him to gain valuable knowledge of, and insight into, city planning and development. Jim and his wife, Jill, have two teenage daughters, Jesse and Leah.
